A hotly contested final of the Roche League team event was held at Gorey Tennis Club on Friday 23rd April. Teams of 8 each played two mixed, ladies and/or gents doubles matches in glorious sunshine at the Esmonde Street club. The move to 8 member teams encouraged players of all standards to take part in the regular weekend matches over the last 8 weeks… leading to much (friendly) rivalry between the teams.
Emerging victorious was the ‘Yellow’ team of Julian Breen, Mark Andrews, Julie Sammiller, Siobhan Freeney, Bernie Collins, Helen Cole, Les James and Joan Doyle. Narrowly beaten was the ‘Black’ team of Diarmuid Swords (subst for John Giffney), Padraig Farrell, Ann Bernie, Fergus Walsh (subst. for Frank O Brien), Hazel Smyth, Paddy Byrne, Rita Sinnott and Jean Murphy.
